Shifting baselines
Dir. Julien Elie
Shifting baselines: horizontes perdidos | 2025 | Canada | 101 min.
Synopsis
In the shadow of the largest rocket ever built, a territory vanishes. In Boca Chica, Texas, where the Rio Grande meets the Gulf of Mexico, the arrival of SpaceX forever transforms a landscape of beaches, wetlands, and communities deeply connected to the land. As this wild territory—home to countless animal species—gradually disappears and slips into oblivion, the boundary between nature and progress becomes increasingly fragile. Suspended between fascination with the future and nostalgia for what is being lost, Shifting Baselines portrays a frontier where dreams of reaching the stars collide with the reality of those left on the ground.
